What is Hot Rolled Coil and Its Use?

Hot rolled coils are steel plates made of slabs as raw material and rolled by rough rolling and finishing rolling units after heating. Generally it includes the medium-thick and wide steel strip, the hot-rolled and thin-wide steel strip and the hot-rolled sheet. Among them, the medium-thick and wide steel strip is the most representative variety, and its output accounts for about two-thirds of the total output of hot rolled coils.

Medium-thick and wide steel strips refer to steel strips with the thickness greater than or equal to 3 mm and less than 20 mm, and the width greater than or equal to 600 mm, which are produced and delivered in coils using continuous broadband steel hot rolling mills or steckelmills.

Hot-rolled and thin-wide steel strips are steel strips with the thickness less than 3 mm and the width greater than or equal to 600 mm, which are produced by continuous broadband steel hot rolling mills, steckelmills, or thin slab continuous rolling equipment, and delivered in coils.

Hot-rolled sheets refer to single steel sheets with the thickness less than 3 mm, which are usually produced by continuous broadband steel rolling mills or thin slab continuous casting and rolling equipment, and delivered in plates.

China is the world's largest producer, consumer and exporter of hot rolled coils, with an annual output of hundreds of millions of tons. The development of the steel industry has effectively supported the steady and rapid development of the national economy. And the increase on the output and quality of hot rolled coils has also better met the growing actual needs of the country's construction and machinery manufacturing industries.

The Use of Hot Rolled Coil:

Hot rolled coils are the important steel product, so hot rolled coil uses are wide, mainly reflecting  the needs of industrialization. They have excellent properties such as high strength, good toughness, easy processing and forming and good weldability. The hot rolled coil is widely used in manufacturing industries such as ships, automobiles, bridges, construction, machinery, and pressure vessels. The scope of application is:

(1) Processing into ordinary cold rolling after annealing;

(2) Processing galvanizing with the galvanizing unit of annealing pretreatment device;

(3) The panels basically do not need to be processed.
