Global Crude Steel Production Fell 4.3% Year-on-year in March

On April 23, the World Steel Association (WSA) released global crude steel production data for March. In March, crude steel output in the world's 71 countries and regions included in the statistics was 161.2 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.3%. In the first quarter of this year, crude steel output in the world's 71 countries and regions included in the statistics was 469 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%.


From the perspective of the world's top ten steel-producing countries (regions), in March, China's crude steel output was 88.27 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.8%; India's crude steel output was 12.7 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%; Japan's crude steel output was 720 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.9%; U.S. crude steel production is 6.9 million tons, unchanged year-on-year; Russia's crude steel output is estimated to be 6.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.8%; Iran's crude steel output is 2.8 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 2.0%.

In March, from the perspective of blast furnace pig iron production, global pig iron production in 37 countries (regions) was 108 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.8%. In terms of regions, the pig iron production of the European Union (27 countries) was 5.89 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%; the pig iron production of Russia and other CIS countries + Ukraine was 5.45 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1.5%; the pig iron production of Asia was 89.99 million tons (including 72.66 million tons in mainland China), a year-on-year decrease of 61%; in the first quarter, the global cumulative production of pig iron was 318 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%.

In March, direct reduced iron (DRI) production in 13 countries around the world was 9.56 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.8%. Among them, India's direct reduced iron production was 4.43 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 11.6%; Iran's direct reduced iron production was 1.93 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 31.4%. In the first quarter, direct reduced iron production in 13 countries around the world was 28.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.4%.
